In October 2006, we were successful in obtaining funding through the Cultural Small Arts Grant Program from the Coffs Harbour City Council and early in 2007 we embarked on a truly community orientated project… A hand scribed and beautifully illustrated book, the culmination of the wealth of creativity and the remarkable talent of our members, and a desire to produce something of value to commemorate a remarkable achievement of 20 years since our inception.

The book covers the history of the site, from its earliest beginnings to the fulfilment of the dream of several dynamic people to create ‘something special’ a truly wonderful botanic garden on the only site suitable in Coffs Harbour. It incorporates the time line of events, its special areas, highlights of different sections, the glasshouses and the birds and fauna that inhabit the Garden.

The project encompassed…

•Working with the Friends of the Botanic Garden’s Eve Colley on the contents of the book

•The artwork and calligraphy completed by 10 members of Coffs Calligraphers

•The special interleaving papers were silkscreened by Insight Screenprinting

• The book, bound in beautiful suede the calligraphic title embossed on the front, was put together by Nigel Lovett of the Coastal Bookbinding Co. in Coffs Harbour

•Well-known local timber craftsman Neil Scobie has designed and made a wonderful glass-topped, lockable display cabinet using fine local timbers in which to house the finished book

•A special performance by the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium’s choir ‘Sounds Fine!’ began the Official Book Launch on Wednesday 22nd August at 5pm at the City Gallery

We hope the book will be a wonderful gift to the City, a beautiful memento of our 20th Anniversary. We presented the book to the City in a ceremony at the Regional Gallery and hope the book will be used for promotional material.
