From humble beginnings, we have always strived to showcase our members’ work, as well as top calligraphers from all over Australia. We have certainly come along way in the 16 years of exhibiting calligraphy.
Louise Rawson- Harris the Director of the Bunker Cartoon Gallery was extremely warm and gracious and the volunteers so helpful we had to pinch ourselves as the exhibits went up on the walls so easily and so well.
Opening Night the Bunker Gallery sparkled with calligraphic works brightly lit and spaciously hung on the long expanse of walls. The words ‘Expressive Lines’ were emblazoned on the wall adjacent to the main entry. We had finally achieved our annual exhibition hung in a truly wonderful and professional Gallery space.
Flooding rain prevented Richard Holloway, Development Officer, Arts Mid North Coast, Regional Arts NSW, from fulfilling his Opening Night duties. However, our guest speaker Jan Strom, Head of the Office of Regional Engagement at Southern Cross University, capably stepped up and gave an interesting set of statistics regarding the great diversity and influence of the arts in Coffs Harbour - before pronouncing our exhibition open.
The solo performance of Roslyn Raven on the piano warmly spread through the bunker was masterful and very enjoyable.
The standard of the 63 entries was very high and came from NSW, Victoria and Queensland as well as the UK, with Mary Noble sending two pieces of unframed work.
There were approximately one hundred people present at the opening and eight were sold during the three and a half weeks the 16th Annual exhibition was open to the public.
